Learning to run with good technique can be the key for many runners to overcoming injury, improving performance, and enjoying running more than ever.
Dave has been working to improve runners' technique for the past 15 years and has developed a philosophy and system that can quickly pinpoint a person's individual technique issues, then give customised coaching cues and exercises to get them running fast, light, and smooth.
The process all starts with a 1:1 assessment, talking through your training history, your injuries, and pinpointing your running goals. A biomechanical assessment is also undertaken to see if you have any imbalances in muscle flexibility, strength, and joint range of motion. From here a video gait analysis is performed and your particular running technique is broken down and explained in easy to understand language (no overly complicated medial terminology and jargon!). Next, the coaching begins, where Dave will give you simple cues to help improve your technique.
Most people notice a change straight away, and although it takes some practice to get the knack of a change in technique, in the majority of cases, changes start to feel completely natural after about 4-6 weeks of coaching. Dave will advise you how to adjust your training during this transition process to reduce the risk of getting sore as your muscles get used to the new technique.
Technique coaching is suitable for all runners, whether you are training for a marathon PB or are just getting started as a complete novice. Dave even works with team-sports athletes (both junior and senior) who want to improve their technique for football and other running-based sports.

"I have had pain in the front of my knees when I run for as long as I can remember. I have tried strength training, had scans, massage - nothing has ever really helped and I thought maybe it was just me and that I had dodgy knees. I heard about running technique through Dave's blog and decided to give it a go. He took a very thorough history of my training and my injuries, going back to old injuries that I had almost forgotten about. He then filmed me running and explained how the way I run was putting lots of pressure on my knees. After he had taught me the new running technique I was amazed at how quickly my knee pain went away. It took some practice to get used to the new technique, but I did the sessions with him 6 months ago and have been pain free in my knees for nearly that whole time. Highly recommended" - Sarah, Gold Coast.
